Direct Admits
User-Focused Patient Admission
Direct Admits is a healthcare technology platform that streamlines the direct patient admission process across the US. Founded by Dr. Mohan Gadam, a Family Medicine Specialist, it addresses the inefficiencies in patient transfer coordination he observed in rural and critical care hospitals.
The platform connects hospitals, urgent care centers, providers, and health insurance companies within a single application, while patients enjoy a simplified three-step process to reduce stress during their care journey. By automating workflows, Direct Admits helps alleviate miscommunication and delays in care, allowing clinicians to focus on their patients.
Manual transfer coordination in healthcare is slow, fragmented, and error-prone. It typically involves phone calls between multiple parties, handwritten or faxed documentation, and no single source of truth for tracking admission status. For Dr. Gadam, these were daily barriers to delivering quality care.
The challenge was to build an automated tool capable of delivering an experience that served radically different user types within a single platform (from rural hospital admins to insurance company representatives) without extensive training or confusion.
Healthcare software has a reputation for clunky interfaces that users tolerate rather than embrace. Direct Admits needed a partner who could create a UX that felt intuitive to all parties, while maintaining the reliability and clarity that clinical environments demand.

Capicua's work on Direct Admits centered on building a deeply user-centric UX and UI experience tailored to each party of the patient admission process. We used Figma as our primary design tool to build out wireframes for every key interface while developing distinct user journeys for each type.
We ensured the platform was fully responsive, designing for both desktop and mobile to support clinicians and admins working in varied environments. Our team also developed a comprehensive styleguide to maintain visual harmony across the entire product, anchoring the color palette in the trust associations of medical blue while incorporating the brand's signature orange for clarity and warmth.
Every design decision was made with multi-stakeholder usability in mind. The result is a platform that anyone involved in the admission process can navigate with confidence, regardless of technical background or role.
- Users: Multi-stakeholder UX design serving six distinct user types.
- Responsiveness: Wireframes and full design for desktop and mobile versions.
- Styleguide: Comprehensive styleguide for platform-wide visual consistency.
- System: Color system rooted in medical trust cues with branded differentiation.

Direct Admits launched as an intuitive solution to one of healthcare's most persistent operational problems. The platform successfully unifies admission workflows across the full spectrum of US medical system stakeholders, a challenge that most hospital admissions automation tools fail to address comprehensively.
With structured, automated workflows replacing manual coordination, Direct Admits improves patient care quality while reducing the administrative burden on medical staff. The design system Capicua built ensures consistent, trustworthy and patient-first experiences as Direct Admits continues to grow and add functionality.
- Journey: Unified admission workflow across all healthcare stakeholder types.
- Intuitiveness: Reduced administrative burden for clinical and admin staff.
- Experience: Patient-facing experience simplified to a three-step process.
- Adaptability: Responsive design supporting diverse clinical environments.
- Scalability: Scalable design system enabling ongoing feature development.
Healthcare products need to earn trust from the first interaction. With Shaped Clarity™, Capicua designs systems that clinicians, admins, and patients can rely on without friction. If you're building in healthcare, let's talk.
