DXP
How Capicua redesigned DXP's platform and built its iOS app to modernize the purchasing experience for one of America's leading industrial supply companies.
Context

DXP, founded in 1908 as Southern Engine and Pump Company in Houston, Texas, has grown into a leading industrial MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) supply company.

Known for its Innovative Pumping Solutions and extensive product catalog, DXP became publicly traded in 1996 and is committed to being the best choice for industrial customers through deep product expertise and strong customer support.

Recognizing the need for digital transformation to stay competitive, DXP aimed to modernize its B2B eCommerce experience while preserving the expertise and reliability that have defined the brand for over a century.

Problem

DXP's current digital infrastructure struggled to meet the demands of its professional customers and the complexity of its product catalog. Industrial buyers required fast search, accurate data, and seamless ordering, but the existing platform failed on all fronts.

There was also no mobile experience, leaving field technicians and procurement professionals reliant on a desktop interface. Additionally, the lack of a content management layer meant that customer-specific configurations and pricing had to be handled manually, making it difficult to scale a personalized B2B purchasing experience.

DXP
Solution

Capicua led UX and UI design for DXP's eCommerce site and iOS app, with a focus on delivering exceptional user experiences for industrial professionals. The eCommerce platform leveraged B2BCommerce with ASP.NET Web API on Microsoft Azure for integration and business logic, while SQL Server managed both databases for reliable performance.

For the iOS app, we created a mobile purchasing experience in Swift, allowing users to browse products, manage lists, and scan barcodes to place orders quickly. We developed a custom content configuration system with an Azure-hosted API to provide personalized B2B experiences, ensuring that catalog and pricing information is relevant to each user.

  • Experience: UX/UI design for the eCommerce site and the iOS app.
  • eCommerce: B2BCommerce platform with ASP.NET Web API on Microsoft Azure.
  • Development: iOS app developed in Swift with barcode scanning, list creation, and product browsing.
  • Configuration: Custom content configuration file system for customer-specific catalog management.
  • Data: Azure-run API bridging B2BCommerce data with the mobile app experience.
DXP
Success

DXP's upgraded eCommerce platform and iOS app enhance the digital purchasing experience for customers. Field professionals can now easily find products, scan barcodes, and place orders on job sites, creating a mobile-first workflow.

The custom content architecture overcomes B2BCommerce limitations, allowing for scalable personalized catalogs without manual effort. With over a century of industrial expertise, DXP's modernization strengthens its digital presence and positions the company for growth while maintaining its customer-centric reputation.

  • App: iOS app live with barcode scanning, list management, and full catalog access.
  • Platform: B2BCommerce platform redesigned with outstanding UX for professionals.
  • Personalization: Custom Azure API for customer-specific catalog experiences.
  • Experience: Mobile purchasing access for technicians and procurement professionals.
  • Leadership: The platform now reflects the scale of a 100+ year industrial leader.

Legacy industries with complex product catalogs and demanding customers need digital experiences built to their specific standards. With Shaped Clarity, Capicua modernizes unorganized platforms for professional buyers. Let's talk.
